survivor-story-george-dcruze-toronto-canadaWhile on holiday in the majestic and historic city of Merida, Mexico (200 miles west of Cancun) Toronto’s George D’Cruze faced any traveler’s worst nightmare. He and Ann were a couple of thousand miles from home when he became violently ill and was admitted to a hospital in Merida.

Fortunately, the quality of care was very good. Various tests and scans were run. It was determined the immediate removal of Mr. D’Cruze’s gall bladder was necessary and the surgery was successfully completed. Mr. D’Cruze was required to stay a further six days in hospital and the attending specialist then recommended he return to his Canadian home. The couple contacted their daughter, Rachel, in Toronto, who then got in touch with SkyMed’s Member Services’ Nan Steinberg. According to Mr. D‘Cruze, “Nan immediately got the wheels in motion and we were soon advised the situation was under control.”

Nan dispatched a specially trained flight nurse, Diane Atwood from Flight Mates, in Los Angeles to Merida, who  accompanied the D’Cruzes from the hospital to the Merida airport for the flight to Toronto. Mr. D’Cruze said, “Nan had made arrangements for Diane Atwood, Ann and I to fly first class to Toronto. The nurse accompanied us all the way home; her care and comfort were excellent.”

“We cannot help mentioning again the exceptional and reassuring service provided by Nan”, he said,” SkyMed is to be highly complimented.”

The D’Cruzes have visited Mexico on several occasions and have been members of SkyMed for many years.

They concluded their remarks with this advice to all travelers, “Don’t leave home without SkyMed.”
