“While on a Hawaiian Island cruise, I stumbled over our cabin door’s threshold sideways onto my knee,” says Adonna Mortimer. “My leg began to swell and turn purple. The on-board doctor sent me to a hospital in Maui where the verdict was to get home to Joplin, Missouri for an MRI. Within two hours after calling SkyMed, SkyMed had arranged our flight accommodations, and a wheelchair escort for the flight home.”
This wasn’t the first time the Mortimer’s needed SkyMed’s help. The prior year, Adonna’s husband, Dan, experienced a massive heart attack at midnight while on a Great Lakes Cruise on Lake Erie. The ship’s captain called the Coast Guard, secured a dock, and Dan was life flighted to Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He had surgery and was in ICU for four days. After Dan was dismissed from the hospital, SkyMed once again arranged a flight home for them.
How did you find out about SkyMed and why did you choose SkyMed? “We decided to become SkyMed members based on the fact that our RV dealer, Marty Lown, had used SkyMed, and was taken to his home hospital within a 24-hour period. SkyMed had also taken his motorhome back to Carthage, MO.”
What would you tell your friends about your experience with SkyMed? “I tell my friends that SkyMed is reliable as they got both of us home in our impaired conditions. Our flights home were exceptional. Within two hours, I had the front row seat in first class which provided leg room for my immobilized leg brace. Don’s flight had extra room for him to be comfortable, experiencing minimal time between flights to get home quickly. SkyMed proved in two crisis situations to be exactly as promoted. What could have been stressful tasks of negotiating flights was stress free with all connections taken care of.”
Do you have any tips to share on ‘how to’ survive a life challenge? “Knowing one phone call to SkyMed is all that is needed to get help is so comforting. SkyMed considers all the issues that must be addressed in such situations. SkyMed = Total peace of mind!”
