Survivor Stories

Donald Thompson

Smithfield, Rhode Island

While staying at the Flamingo Beach Resort in St. Maarten, my husband fell and broke his hip.  We were transported by ground ambulance to the St. Maarten Medical Center and, with all due respect to those who live on St. Maarten and need to receive healthcare there, it was not a place we wanted to be.  The doctors and staff were very pleasant, but they just didn’t have what we in the US expect to have.  I am a nurse so I know exactly what I’m talking about.

One phone call to SkyMed was all it took and their personnel were excellent. Jim was on top of everything and answered every call and if he wasn’t at his desk, the receptionist found him immediately. They handled ALL arrangements – ground, air, customs, etc. Originally they thought we could fly commercial, but when the hip fracture was confirmed, SkyMed didn’t bat an eye and immediately switched gears and made arrangements. I read someone’s post a while back about limitations with SkyMed transports, but we didn’t experience any – I said Providence was where we were going and it happened in a Lear jet.

Within eight hours after first contacting SkyMed, the Member Advocate for SkyMed called and gave me her name – Corinne – and telephone number and told me I was to call her directly if there were any problems at all and that she was the liaison for the president of SkyMed and had a direct pipeline. I was impressed.

How did you find out about SkyMed and why did you choose SkyMed? We found SkyMed online and it was just what we were looking for.

What would you tell your friends about your experience with SkyMed? We’re so glad we purchased our SkyMed membership and it is worth every penny we have paid over the last several years. I am a very happy and relieved customer because the service is excellent and our family plan just saved us about $35,000 in air transport fees!
