Ray & Paige Landes
Harrisonburg, VA
Ray and I were on our 16th Wally Byam Airstream caravan traveling from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland. During our stay at a campground Ray became very nauseous. After two days he became cold, clammy, sweaty and confused. The caravan leader said Ray was in shock and he was taken to the Emergency Department in Bonavista, Newfoundland, in a very remote area that had only ten beds. He was diagnosed with sepsis and cellulitis of his right leg and his white blood count was over 40,000. Ray was very sick and was transferred to Dr. GB Cross Memorial Hospital for further testing and treatment. That’s when I called SkyMed.
Since Ray was very weak and in no shape to drive and I couldn’t drive the RV home, SkyMed arranged to have our Airstream returned all the way from Clarenville, Newfoundland to Harrisonburg, Virginia. That was such a stress reliever for both of us and I was able to focus on Ray. SkyMed also arranged to fly us home and provided a medical escort to accompany us along the way. She was very kind and gentle but took control when needed and she was absolutely wonderful!
How did you find out about SkyMed and why did you choose SkyMed? We heard about SkyMed at an Airstream rally about ten years ago and we liked knowing it would take away the pressure from our family members. We always left a pamphlet with our daughter and told her not to worry about us if anything happened.
What would you tell your friends about your experience with SkyMed? We tell them SkyMed works and what we just experienced was a true test as to what SkyMed does. The friendliness of everyone when we needed help was great and they took care of getting our RV home. Our trip was cut short but having SkyMed on our side turned it into a positive experience. We never leave home without SkyMed and anytime we call we always get a live person, which is so important!
