“In early December, we went to MAC Hospital in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico because my husband, Arie, was extremely weak and had been suffering from stomach problems and heart failure,” says Dorit Arazi. “He could barely walk. He was admitted into intensive care. The doctor at MAC asked if we had evacuation protection. When I told her that we had SkyMed, she said to phone the hospital in Vancouver, BC and see if they had a bed. (She knew the cost of a hospital stay at MAC was high!!)”
“I got in touch with SkyMed and they arranged for an air ambulance to take my husband to Vancouver, once he was stable. The ground ambulance, arranged by SkyMed, took us to Queretaro Airport. Luckily, my husband was asleep. The medic that was with us was very professional and constantly checked my husband’s vital signs and made sure he was comfortable. When we finally boarded the air ambulance, the team on board was wonderful. My husband was hooked up to an intravenous drip by a very competent doctor, and he and his assistant took really good care of both of us. Again, we were fortunate that my husband slept the whole time, so he didn’t know anything that was going on. We were met in Vancouver by an ambulance and taken to the Vancouver General Hospital where my husband stayed for two weeks.”
How did you find out about SkyMed and why did you choose SkyMed? “A SkyMed Representative had a SkyMed breakfast seminar at Geek and Coffee. I was very impressed by the presentation and signed up as a SkyMed Member.”
What would you tell your friends about your experience with SkyMed? “I would tell my friends that SkyMed is the best investment one can make when traveling. I don’t know what I would have done without their excellent service. Once I phoned SkyMed, I didn’t have to worry about anything. They took care of everything.”
Do you have any tips to share on ‘how to’ survive a life challenge? “I think it’s important for people to check what evacuation protection they think they have. A lot of services only move you if the hospital cannot treat you and just take you to the nearest adequate facility. You need to check your policy ahead of time when you travel to Mexico. I was impressed by the range of additional services SkyMed provides, such as Visitor Transportation and Physical Remains Return.”
