Mr. & Mrs. Gilbert Molnar – Vancouver, BC, Canada
My wife and I were on board the Carnival Glory Cruise Ship near Cozumel, Mexico, when around 2:00 a.m. I had a heart attack. My wife called 911 on the ship and they had to revive me and put me on oxygen. They kept me stable and by 9:00 a.m. I was taken by ambulance to the Cozumel Medical Center.
When we got there the Medical Center wanted $25,000 up front; my wife gave them $5,000 using our credit card but the clinic said that was not enough. My wife then phoned my daughter and son-in-law and they came up with $15,000; the clinic settled for $20,000.
At the time I booked the cruise, I had also purchased medical insurance through the cruise line, but my wife was unaware of this and the only card we had on-hand was for SkyMed. At that point my son-in-law contacted SkyMed and spoke to Jim, who told us he needed a doctor to accept me as a patient when I got to Vancouver. As soon as our doctor got in touch with Jim things really went into high gear. SkyMed made all the arrangements and before long my wife and I were on the flight from Cozumel back to Vancouver, BC, Canada, along with a doctor, a nurse, two pilots and a medical assistant. During a stop for fuel, my wife was freezing (we were wearing apparel for Mexico) and the doctor gave her his jacket, which was above and beyond our expectations.
How did you find out about SkyMed and why did you choose SkyMed?While spending time in Los Cabos, which we do every year, I saw an ad for SkyMed in the local Gringo Gazette and thought if either of us got sick they don’t have facilities in Mexico like they do in the US and Canada. I checked into it and thought, why not get it? What have we got to lose? So we got it and we’re so glad we did because SkyMed literally saved my life!
What would you tell your friends about your experience with SkyMed?First of all, we are eternally grateful to SkyMed and their team because they not only saved my life, they saved us financially — over $46,000! If you do any traveling at all, SkyMed is the only way to go. We are delighted with their services because they took care of everything and we will never travel without SkyMed. We had a five-year policy and renewed for another five years because overall, and especially cost-wise, it’s just a no-brainer!
