Survivor story, Global ETS, SkyMed International, Rosa Lemke, Innsbruck, Austria

SkyMed and GLOBAL members Nolger and Rosa Lemke were some 5,000 miles away from their home in Canada enjoying a planned hiking tour in the mountains of Austria when Rosa fell and broke her shoulder. After walking twenty minutes to a mountain hut Rosa was helicoptered to a local hospital and told she would need emergency surgery.

After assessing Rosa’s overall condition the doctors decided it was necessary that the surgery take place in Canada so that ongoing physical therapy needed afterwards would not be interrupted. Rosa agreed and was discharged from the hospital the next day.

From there the Lemkes traveled by train to a friend’s home in Munich, Germany where Mr. Lemke then called GLOBAL/SkyMed’s Member Services Department to report Rosa’s condition and arrangements were made to fly them home to Alberta, Canada.

When asked what Rosa would tell her friends about her experience with Global ETS, she replied, “Our trip didn’t turn out like we had planned, but we’re very thankful we had our GLOBAL coverage in place. They reimbursed us for our flight and several miscellaneous expenses to get us home. The best part was knowing we had travel protection during our trip abroad and GLOBAL made sure we made it safely from Austria to Alberta and our son was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived.”
